Tell HN: My open-source project hit 5k registered users
Hey HN, a little over a year ago, I launched https://forms.md, a free, open-source Typeform alternative/form builder. It hit 5,000 registered users today, Alhamdulillah.
Revenue is minuscule, but I haven't properly monetized it at all (yet?). Either way, very happy with it how things turned out so far.
Congrats — 5k users is no small thing, especially for an open-source project.
Honestly, even if the revenue isn’t there yet, this is still a huge win. Getting real users and distribution is the hard part.
In the long run, the personal brand and credibility you’re building here are probably more valuable than the early revenue anyway.
Thank you. I agree, the credibility and growth has been very gratifying, definitely more so than the revenue.
Congratulations! 5k users is a real milestone — especially for open source where you rarely hear from most of your users. The ones who take time to register are your most valuable early adopters. Would be curious what your biggest growth channel was — was it a single post that took off or slow organic growth over time?
I don't really do anything tbh, I made a few posts on Reddit, and mostly on HN. Totally organic, no upvote farming/bots, kept it 100% honest for my peace of mind.
Well done man, and learned a new word too. Praise God!
Nice, Alhamdulillah!
Very nice! I need some forms for my side project. Will check it out.
Nice! Feel free to reach out, my email is on my profile.
